Pistons, Remove and Install > < Damage to Con-rod Bearing of Cylinder 1 After Replacement of Oil Pump/New Seal

 

Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove cylinder head - see operation "Cylinder Head, Remove and Install".  

Remove upper part of oil pan - see operation "Oil Pan - Upper Part, Remove and Install".  

For X 20 XEV, C 22 SEL: remove differential (balancer shaft unit) - see operation "Differential (Balancer Shaft Unit), Remove and Install (X 20 XEV, C 22 SEL)".  

Detach oil intake pipe (1) from oil pump and from crankshaft bearing bridge. Detach oil baffle plate (2) from crankshaft bearing bridge and crankshaft bearing bridge (3) from cylinder block.  

Mark order of con-rod bearing caps (4) - beads (5) of con-rod bearing caps point to flywheel side. Remove con-rod bearing caps from con-rod.

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove combustion residue from upper part of cylinder bore. Carefully press piston with con-rod upwards out of cylinder bore with hammer handle and remove.  

Object Number: 616195  Size: DEFAULT  Clean   

Clean and check all parts, replace if necessary.  

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Piston ring position - piston ring (I) moved by 180 ° .  

Oil scraper rings (II) - offset 25 to 50 mm from gap of the intermediate ring to the left and right.  

Lightly coat piston rings with engine oil and compress with piston ring compressor.  

Carefully push pistons and con-rod into cylinder bore hole with hammer handle.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

Note installation position - arrow (1) on piston head points to engine timing side, bead on con-rod points to flywheel side.

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Note sequence of con-rod bearing caps. Attach con-rod bearing caps to con-rod with new fastening bolts - beads (1) on con-rod bearing caps point towards flywheel side - tightening torque 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft. + 45 ° + 15 ° .  

Apply a bead of adhesive sealing compound (black) to joints of oil pump and rear crankshaft bearing cap.  

Attach crankshaft bearing bridge to cylinder block - 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.  

For X 20 XEV, C 22 SEL: install differential (balancer shaft unit) - see operation "Differential (Balancer Shaft Unit), Remove and Install (X 20 XEV, C 22 SEL)".  

Attach oil baffle plate to crankshaft bearing bridge - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. Attach oil intake pipe with new gasket to oil pump - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. Attach oil intake pipe to crankshaft bearing bridge - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.  

Install upper part of oil pan - see operation "Oil Pan - Upper Part, Remove and Install".  

Install cylinder head - see operation "Cylinder Head, Remove and Install".
