Crankshaft Bearing Play, Check (Determine Crankshaft Beating Play with Plastigage)  

Notice: 

Crankshaft bearing cap removed.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

To prevent the thread from tearing when removing the crankshaft bearing cap, remove grease from crankshaft bearing journal and lightly coat bearing shell with engine oil. Do not turn crankshaft.  

Object Number: 616197  Size: DEFAULT  Measure   

Place plastigage (deformable plastic thread) over the entire width of the crankshaft bearing journal (arrow).  

Install crankshaft bearing cap to specified torque - tightening torque 50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft. + 60 ° + 15 ° .  

Notice: 

Plastigage is available via the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue. The fastening bolts can be reused to check the crankshaft bearing play.

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove bearing cover crankshaft.  

Object Number: 616197  Size: DEFAULT  Measure   

Compare width of flattened plastic thread (arrow) with measuring scale (on Plastigage packaging).  

Perm. crankshaft bearing clearance: see Technical Data.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale.  

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Attach crankshaft bearing cap to cylinder block with new fastening bolts - tightening torque 50 Nm / 37 lbf. ft. + 60 ° + 15 ° .
