Cylinder Block Ventilation Pipe, Remove and Install (X 16 XEL without Secondary Air System)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect ground cable from battery.   Remove engine cover from cylinder head cover.   Detach wiring harness plug from exhaust gas recirculation valve, oxygen sensor, knock sensor and from ignition module.   Remove cylinder block ventilation hose (1).   Release both wiring harness plugs for engine control unit (2) and disconnect from engine control unit.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove fastening bolts (1), only loosen fastening bolt (2).   Remove engine control unit upwards.   Detach engine control unit bracket from cylinder head.   Unscrew fastening bolt for coolant pipe at transmission.   Remove intake manifold support (3) from intake manifold and from cylinder block.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove cable connections (1) and (2) from starter.   Remove ground connection (4).   Remove fastening nut (3) and fastening bolt (5) from starter.   Remove starter downward.   Unscrew fastening bolts (arrows) and remove cylinder block ventilation pipe - note installation position of gasket.     Clean    Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces.     Install, Connect    Attach cylinder block ventilation pipe with new gasket to cylinder block - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.   Install starter at transmission. Tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.   Attach ground connection.   Install cable connections on starter - ensure correct cable routing.

  Install, Connect   

Attach intake manifold support to cylinder block - tightening torque 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft.  

Attach intake manifold support to intake manifold - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.  

Attach coolant pipe to transmission.  

Attach engine control unit bracket to cylinder head - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.  

Attach engine control unit to engine control unit bracket - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.  

Connect both wiring harness plugs to engine control unit and lock - ensure correct seating of wiring harness plugs.  

Install cylinder block ventilation hose.  

Re-connect all released wiring plug connections.  

Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.  

Connect ground cable to battery.
