Timing, Adjust  

Notice: 

Adjustment is carried out with the engine cold - at room temperature.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install". Remove cylinder head cover - see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".   Remove torsional vibration damper (1) - mark installation position - counterhold at the toothed belt drive gear fastening bolt.   Loosen fastening bolt of toothed belt tension roller and turn adjustment eccentric in direction of arrow (clockwise) until pointer (2) is at left stop.   Remove toothed belt from camshaft pulleys.     Important!    Rotate crankshaft slowly and evenly. Improper adjustment leads to contact and consequently to damaged components e.g. valves on pistons and inlet valves on exhaust valves.

  Adjust   

At camshaft hex, position camshaft pulleys (short route) on mark. Align lug (2) on the guide bearings with the grooves (1) on the camshaft pulleys. Fix camshaft pulleys with KM-853 (4). Note timing mark - marks (3) must align.     Install, Connect    Position toothed belt - ensure that tension side (I) is taut. Adjust toothed belt tension - see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust". Attach torsional vibration damper to toothed belt drive gear - note installation location - counterhold at fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear - 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.   Install cylinder head cover - see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install". Install front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".
