Shift Cover, Remove and Install and/or Seal (F 13/F 15/F 17/F 18/F 18+)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove battery.  

Remove battery support.  

Detach universal joint from shifter rod - at the same time press in female pin retaining spring (arrow) and lever out female pin with KM-569-A.   Press adjustment pin (2) into adjustment bore, rotate shift rod to the left (towards 3rd gear) - the adjustment pin is towards the front in the direction of travel in transmissions F 13 and F 17, and towards the rear in the direction of travel in transmissions F 15, F 18, F 18+.   Remove shift cover (1) from transmission. Cover transmission aperture with clean cloth.     Clean    Remove sealant remnants and clean sealing surfaces.

  Measure   

Measure play (I) between dowel pin (2) and actuation (1) of 3rd/4th gear shift rod with feeler gauge.   Play must be approx. 0.5 mm.     Adjust    If play is too large: Drive in dowel pin further in transmission housing with drift and remeasure play.   If play is too small: Correction of play is not required as shift rod presses dowel pin into correct position.     Install, Connect    Adhere new gasket with grease to transmission housing. Place shift cover on transmission - ensure that adjusting pin sits in adjusting bore hole and shift locks.   Install shift cover on transmission - tightening torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft. Pull adjusting pin out of adjusting bore hole.

  Install, Connect   

Slide universal joint (2) in shift fork (3). Coat new female pin with grease. Press in female pin (1) in direction of arrow until retaining spring engages.     Inspect    Check transmission fluid level and correct if necessary - see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct (F 13/F 15/F 17/F 18/F 18+)".     Install, Connect    Install battery support - tightening torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft.   Install battery.   Shift through transmission.
