Check straight-ahead position in all cases following service work on steering gear. Straight-ahead position is attained when bellows sit tension-free over length (1) between tie rod cuts and steering gear and wheels are in straight-ahead position.
Inspect Steering gear shaft can be lodged in steering intermediate shaft with a 360 ° rotation. This can be detected in that bellows are extended or compressed with steering wheel in straight-ahead position and wheels are not in straight-ahead position.
Adjust Turn steering wheel to "straight ahead" position. Remove steering intermediate shaft from steering gear. Turn steering gear shaft until bellows on both sides are the same length and wheels are in straight-ahead position. Attach intermediate shaft to steering gear - note compensating plate. Install new fastening bolt with screw locking compound (red) - tightening torque 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft. + 45 ° + 15 ° . |
