Servicing TRW power assisted steering box > < Removing and installing track rod (power assisted steering box TRW and ZF)

Checking left-hand track rod length and if necessary adjusting
 
V48-1031
  • ‒ → Check dimension "a" on left-hand track rod and if necessary adjust.

Dimension "a" = 406 ± 1 mm

Notes:

  • ◆ Only adjust track on right-hand track rod.
  • ◆ Before installing new left-hand track rod check dimension "a" and if necessary adjust.

Installing bellows

  • ‒ Check bellows for wear (cuts, cracks) and ensure sealing surfaces are clean.

  • ‒ → Install bellows, but first turn the track rod so that the track rod ball joint shank is in the installation position.
  • ‒ Install pressure balance pipe.

Notes:

  • ◆ Do not damage sticker -A- when pushing the bellows on (only on TRW power assisted steering boxes).
  • ◆ Ensure that the bellows and the pressure balance pipe are installed correctly.

  • ◆ Only use genuine hose clips -B-.
  • ‒ → Tension hose clips with pliers V.A.G 1275.

Note:

→ The bellows must on no account be installed twisted (negative example).
