Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^
Old oil collecting and extracting device V.A.G 1782
^
Silicone sealant D 176 501
^
Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
^
Flat scraper
^
Protective glasses
Removing
-
Remove noise insulation.
-
Disconnect 3 pin connector from oil level Thermal sensor G266 (if present).
-
Remove the holder for the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor V101 from the oil pan.

Drain engine oil.
Note:

Observe disposal regulations!

Remove the oil pan.

Loosen oil pan with light blows of a rubber headed hammer if necessary.

Remove sealant residue from cylinder block with a flat scraper.

Remove remaining sealant at oil pan using a rotating brush, e.g. a drill with plastic brush attachment (wear protective glasses).
-
Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
Note:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.
^
The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.
