Removing and installing battery
→ Chapter „Adapting battery monitoring control unit“
  WARNING
Danger of injury! Comply with the warning notices and safety regulations → Anchor!
  Caution
To disconnect and reconnect the battery, the procedure described in the workshop manual should be strictly adhered to → Chapter.
Replacing battery on vehicles with start/stop system:
Because of its higher deep-cycle resistance, only a special starter battery is used in vehicles with a start/stop system.
When renewing the starter battery, note correct part designation in → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue). Starter batteries for use in vehicles with a start/stop system are marked with „AGM“ (Absorbent Glass Mat) or „EFB“ (Enhanced Flooded Battery).
  Note
t  In vehicles with a battery sensor (start-stop system), the battery has to be parameterised after a new starter battery has been installed.
t  As a result of battery parameterisation, the technical data of the new battery are sent to the battery monitor.
t  Performing battery parameterisation → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
Removing:
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.
  W00-0427
–  Undo and remove bolt -1- and remove clamping plate -2-.
–  Remove battery -4-.
Installing:
  Caution
A loosely fitted battery creates the following dangers:
t  Shortened service life due to damage from vibration (danger of explosion)
t  Damage to the grid plates of the battery.
t  Damage to battery housing by securing bracket (possibility of acid leaking, with high consequential costs)
t  Poor crash safety
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing observe the following:
  N27-11015
–  Place battery -4- on battery carrier -3- and push towards rear.
–  Put clamping plate -2- on and secure with bolt -1-.
–  Tighten bolt -1- to torque specified in assembly overview → Chapter.
–  Check battery is firmly seated after installation.
–  Connecting battery → Chapter.
  Note
t  In vehicles with a battery sensor (start-stop system), the battery has to be parameterised after a new starter battery has been installed.
t  As a result of battery parameterisation, the technical data of the new battery are sent to the battery monitor.
