Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Description and Operation
The indicator light reminds the driver that the car is due for its next service.
The light operates mechanically. It is lit when the following mileage has been reached.
For non-turbo engines:
USA: 10,000 miles
Canada: 16,000 km.
For turbo engines:
USA: 5,000 miles
Canada: 8,000 km.
The light is lit for two minutes after starting the engine when a service is due.
The process is repeated at every start until zeroed. The light is zeroed directly on the instrument panel when serviced.
