StepTest procedureResultAction
0PRELIMINARY CHECKS

Check the condition of the compressor drive belt

OK

Move onto step 1

Tension incorrect

End of diagnosis

1CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

Connect the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) to the diagnostic socket

  • Check that there are no faults in the climate control control unit
  • Check that there are no fault in the engine management control unit
OK

Move onto step 2

An error is detected in one of the two control units
  • Continue according to the instructions for the diagnostic equipment

End of diagnosis

Lack of dialogue with the climate control control unit

End of diagnosis

2COMPRESSOR ENGAGEMENT CHECK

Using the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) carry out the active diagnosis of the operation of the compressore relay (in the engine management control unit ambient)

OK

Move onto step 3

Compressore relay faulty
  • Check and, if necessary, replace the compressor engagement relay

End of diagnosis

4 stage pressure switch faulty

End of diagnosis

Connections not correct

End of diagnosis

3CHECK COMPRESSOR ELECTRO-MAGNET COUPLING

Check the operation of the compressor electro-magnet coupling and, in particular, that it is correctly connected to earth

OK

Move onto step 4

Compressor electro-magnet coupling malfunction

End of diagnosis

4SYSTEM PRESSURE CHECK

Check the system pressure: See Test 5040B Air conditioning system (pressures) efficiency test

OK

Move onto step 5

High pressure does not increase or low pressure decreases too much: leaks in the circuit

End of diagnosis

High pressure continues to increase: and the compressor cooling fan does not operate.

Move onto step (see D30)

5CHECK CORRECT OPERATION

Check that there are no reasons why the climate control control unit or the engine control unit do not enable the engagement of the cooling circuit.

For more details see DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION: 5040 Air conditioner box and components (see 5040F)

OK

End of diagnosis
