Removing and installing brake pads > < Removing and installing front splash plate (PR 1ZC)

  Note
t  Every time after changing the brake pads, depress the brake pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary, so that the pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  Use the brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- or the extraction unit -V.A.G 1869/4- to draw off brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.
t  Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, fit brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2- (when doing this, release pressure in system).
t  Install all parts supplied in repair kit.

q   Wear limit → Chapter
q   Always renew on both sides of axle
q   Detach brake caliper prior to removing
q   Do not force brake discs off wheel hub; if necessary, use rust remover, otherwise brake discs could be damaged
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
3 - Bolt
q   10 Nm
4 - Splash plate
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
5 - Handbrake cable
q   Engage on brake caliper
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
–  Adjusting handbrake → Chapter

Engage on brake caliper
6 - Axle beam
7 - Bolt
q   65 Nm
8 - Brake line
q   With banjo bolt and seals
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
q   Specified torque of banjo bolt to brake caliper: 38 Nm

q   Always renew if removed
q   35 Nm
10 - Brake caliper
q   Servicing → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
11 - Brake pads
q   Wear limit → Chapter
q   Checking thickness → Booklet
q   Always renew on both sides of axle
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
  Note
The springs on the brake pads are only fitted on certain models.
12 - Brake carrier
q   Replacement carriers are supplied assembled and with sufficient grease on guide pins
q   If protective caps or guide pins are damaged, renew using repair kit. Use grease sachet supplied to lubricate guide pins.
