Preparations before installing a new windscreen
Preparations before installing a new windscreen
  Note
t  If the windscreen flange was damaged, the paintwork must be restored according to specifications in the → Assessment of vehicle paintwork manual and anti-corrosion coating must be applied according to the → Surface Treatments/Chemical Materials manual.
t  First clean restored area using cleaning solution -D 009 401 04-, then apply glass and paint primer -D 009 200 02-.
If you are reusing an undamaged windscreen:
–  When reusing an undamaged windscreen, cut back remaining adhesive sealant on the windscreen glass and body flange until it is even using electric cutter -V.A.G 1561 A- and scraper (25 mm) -V.A.G 1561/8-. Do NOT remove adhesive sealing material completely.
–  The remaining sealant is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealant.
  Note
t  Keep bonding surface clean and free from grease.
t  Do not cut back bonding surface until shortly before installation.
t  Do NOT apply primer to bonding surface and do NOT use cleaning solution.
If installing a new windscreen
–  Clean windscreen in bonding area with cleaning fluid -D 009 401 04- and prime with glass and paint primer -D 009 200 02-.
  Note
The ceramic coating on the glass is not a primer. The glass must always be primed before applying adhesive sealant.
   
–  Use applicator -1- to apply primer -2- evenly in one stroke.
–  Start application with fully soaked felt.
–  Drying time approx. 10 minutes.
–  Width of primer coat -a- = approx. 20 mm.
–  Apply primer centrally in relation to adhesive bead.

l  Dimension -a- = 8 mm ± 2 mm.
l  Dimension -b- = 13.5 mm ± 2 mm.
l  Dimension -c-: note different distances from edge of windscreen → Chapter.

Removing protective strip from fastening strip
–  Fit windscreen before pulling protective strip out of fastening strip.
–  Before fitting plenum chamber cover, pull protective strip -1- out of fastening strip -2- of windscreen -3-.
