–  The voltage at connector A, contact 6 for the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- is greater than 5 V and less than 8 V

  Note
t  If the vehicle is not fitted with a heated windscreen and a control unit for a heated windscreen -J505-, “0” or “00” are displayed.
t  The control unit for the heated windscreen -J505- switches the approx. battery voltage to the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- output while the voltage at the control unit for the heated windscreen -J505- is greater than 12.70 V and the control unit is not too hot.
t  If the windscreen heating is to be switched on, the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- actuates a transistor which halves the voltage at connector “A”, contact “6”. The control unit for the heated windscreen -J505- switches on the heated windscreen.
t  If, while the windscreen is heating up, the voltage (vehicle system voltage at the control unit for the heated windscreen -J505-) drops below 12.70 V or if the control unit for the heated windscreen -J505- overheats, a switch in the control unit for the heated windscreen -J505- opens, and the voltage at the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- output becomes lower than 5 V, the heated windscreen is switched off at the same time by the control unit for the heated windscreen -J505-.

  Note
t  The additional heating request is transmitted via the convenience data bus to the control unit in the dash panel insert -J285- and from there via the drive data bus to the engine control unit.
t  The operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- actuates the engine control unit. It then decides whether the additional heating is to be switched on. Depending on the engine control unit version, different measured value blocks of the engine control unit indicate why the additional heater is not switched on or that it is being actuated. → Relevant Workshop Manual, Diesel Direct Injection and Glow Plug System; Repair group 01
t  An electric or fuel-powered additional heater may be fitted depending on the vehicle features and country version → Chapter.
