Removing and installing hydraulic bonded rubber bush
Hydraulic bonded rubber bushes are installed on the rear axle up to approx. week 30/00.
These hydraulic bonded rubber bushes are not available as replacement parts.
If the hydraulic bonded rubber bushes are damaged, they must be replaced with conventional bonded rubber bushes → Parts catalogue.
If necessary, the bushes must be renewed on both sides of the rear axle. Mixed installation of different versions on the same vehicle is not permissible.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-
t  Hydraulic press -VAS 6178-
t  Foot pump -VAS 6179-
t  Assembly tool -VAS 6180-
t  Tensioning strap -T10038-

Notes on using foot pump -VAS 6179-
t  It is important to read the operating instructions before using the foot pump.
t  The foot pump requires a minimum air pressure of 0.6 MPa (6 bar) in order to develop a maximum hydraulic pressure of 70 MPa (700 bar).
t  Make sure that the air pressure for the foot pump does not exceed 1 MPa (10 bar). Pressures above this value can cause damage to the pump.
t  You can work with a hydraulic pressure of 20 MPa (200 bar) or 70 MPa (700 bar).
t  Generating hydraulic pressure:

–  Operate foot pedal -1- as indicated (arrow).
3 - Pressure release pedal
The pump will stop building up further pressure when the hydraulic pressure reaches 20 MPa (200 bar), or when the foot pedal is released in the neutral position.
If a hydraulic pressure of 20 MPa (200 bar) is not sufficient to remove or install the bush, you can increase it to 70 MPa (700 bar).

–  Press foot pedal -1- and change-over valve -2- simultaneously as indicated (arrows).
3 - Pressure release pedal
The pump will stop building up further pressure when the hydraulic pressure reaches 70 MPa (700 bar), or when the foot pedal is released in the neutral position.
t  Releasing pressure in hydraulic press ⇒ Operating instructions, Page 8.
  Warning
Make sure that the foot pump is not over-filled when releasing the pressure in the hydraulic press, otherwise the fluid container can burst.
The pump resets automatically to a hydraulic pressure of 20 MPa (200 bar) after the pressure has been released in the hydraulic press -VAS 6178-.
