Removing

Note:

→ Brake fluid reservoir can only be detached after removing brake master cylinder, as locking bolt -arrow- is otherwise not accessible.

• ‒ As protection against escaping brake fluid, place a sufficient number of lint-free cloths in area beneath brake master cylinder.
• ‒ Use brake filling and bleeding appliance VAS 5234 or extractor
• ‒ V.A.G 1869/4 to draw off as much brake fluid as possible from brake fluid reservoir.
• ‒ Use hose clamp 3094 to pinch off supply hose of clutch master cylinder.
• ‒ Pull off supply hose for clutch master cylinder.
• ‒ If fitted, unplug connector at warning contact for brake fluid level.
• ‒ If fitted, unplug connectors at brake pressure senders.

• ‒ Unscrew brake pipes at brake master cylinder and seal brake pipes with plugs from repair set, part no. 1H0 698 311 A.
• ‒ Unscrew securing nuts for brake master cylinder.
• ‒ Pull brake master cylinder off brake servo.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• ‒ → Fit brake fluid reservoir with locking bolt -arrow- at brake master cylinder.
• ‒ Replace sealing ring between brake master cylinder and brake servo.
• ‒ On inserting brake master cylinder, ensure correct positioning of pushrod in brake servo.
• ‒ Depress brake pedal slightly to facilitate insertion of brake master cylinder in pushrod.
• ‒ Bleed brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 20 =>Page 47-34.

• ‒ Bleed clutch hydraulics.

=> Manual Gearbox; Repair Group 30

• ‒ On vehicles with ABS/ESP, start basic setting for brake pressure sender(s).

=> Running Gear, Self-diagnosis; Repair Group 01

• ‒ On vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, perform ESP drive test.
