Notes on operation of auxiliary heater with biodiesel (vehicles with diesel engine only)
Problems with auxiliary heater operation may be encountered in cold weather (usually the only conditions under which auxiliary heater is switched on or activated as additional heater) if use is made of vegetable-oil or rape-oil methylester as fuel.
Reason:
–  On account of the physical properties, deposits may form during operation with vegetable-oil or rape-oil methylester in the auxiliary heater combustion chamber (burner element). These then cause combustion problems if the vehicle is run for lengthy periods on vegetable-oil or rape-oil methylester (no flame formation and deflagration in combustion chamber).
–  At low temperatures (below 0 °C), the fluidity of vegetable-oil and rape-oil methylester deteriorates to a far greater extent than that of diesel fuel, thus resulting in a reduced supply of fuel and problems with auxiliary heater operation.
–  The physical properties of vegetable-oil or rape-oil methylester fuel are such that clouds of smoke may emerge from the exhaust pipe during auxiliary heater operation. There is also the possibility of certain odours becoming apparent on heating or burning vegetable oils.
