Checking and adjusting selector lever cable
Checking and adjusting selector lever cable
Checking
–  Shift selector lever into “P” position.
   
Vehicles with 2.0 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Disconnect hose -1- and electrical connector -2- at air cleaner housing.
–  Remove bolt -3-.
–  Release spring clips -4- and detach air intake hose.
–  Take out air cleaner housing.
All models:
  A10-1613
–  Use an open-end spanner (10 mm) -item 2- or similar to lever selector lever cable -1- off selector shaft lever -3-.
–  Press together the retainers on the support bracket of the selector lever cable -arrows- and pull the selector lever cable out of the support bracket on the gearbox.
–  Put the selector lever cable aside in such a way that the end can move freely.
t  Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
–  Move selector lever from “P” to “S”.
–  Check front protective sleeve on selector lever cable for damage, if necessary renew cable.
–  Shift selector lever into “P” position.
l  Selector mechanism and selector lever cable should move smoothly, if necessary renew selector lever cable ( → Chapter) or service selector mechanism.
–  Carefully press selector lever cable onto selector shaft lever and insert in support bracket on the gearbox.

Adjusting
–  Shift selector lever into “P” position.
–  Loosen bolt -2- at the front ball socket of the selector lever cable -1-.
–  While it is in position “P” move the selector lever slightly forwards and backwards, but under no circumstances shift from “P” into another gear.
–  Move selector shaft lever -3- on gearbox to “P”, i.e. push selector shaft lever all the way back (opposite the direction of travel).
  Note!
Detent lever must engage in parking lock wheel, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).
–  Tighten bolt -2- (13 Nm).
–  Check selector mechanism → Chapter.
