Connecting vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- and selecting function
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052-
t  Diagnosis lead, 3m with voltage supply -VAS 5051/1- or diagnosis lead, 5m without voltage supply -VAS 5051/3-
  WARNING
Proceed as follows during measurement and test drives so as to avoid the risk of accident:
Use only vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- to read data blocks. The tester must be attached to the rear seat and operated from there by a second person.

–  With the ignition switched off, connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051/- to the diagnostic connector using diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/1- or -VAS 5051/3-.
Fitting location: footwell (front left), next to bonnet release lever.

–  Switch tester on -arrow-.
The tester is ready for operation as soon as a picture (photo) of a vehicle is displayed.
Starting “Guided fault finding”:
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Touch field/key “Guided fault finding” on screen.
–  Select successively:
t  Brand
t  Model
t  Model year
t  Version
t  Engine code letters
–  Confirm the data entered.
Wait until the tester has interrogated all control units of the vehicle.
–  Press the Go to key and select the function “Function/component selection”.
Now follow the display on the screen, to select the functions required.
