t  Power steering tester -V.A.G 1402-
–  Detach engine cover panel.
  W00-0117
–  Disconnect expansion hose -arrow- (counterhold at hexagon flats on expansion hose).
  Note
t  Place a cloth under the union to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.
t  If necessary, unbolt bracket for hydraulic line to give easier access.
  A48-0384
–  Connect hose from pressure gauge -V.A.G 1402- onto expansion hose.
–  Close cut-off valve on pressure gauge (lever pointing to the left).
  Note
t  Pay attention to the following to avoid damaging pump:
t  Cut-off valve of pressure gauge must not remain closed for more than 10 seconds during this test.
t  Start engine without pressing accelerator and leave it running at idling speed.
t  Take pump pressure reading at idling speed immediately after starting engine (have second mechanic take reading).
t  The pressure will drop during the test; the highest pressure reading is therefore the required test value.
–  Start engine and top up fluid in reservoir if necessary.
–  Read off gauge pressure with engine running at idling speed (measurement must not take longer than 10 seconds).
