Removing and installing exhaust system components
Separating front and rear silencer
  • ◆ For separate replacement of the front and rear silencers, a prepared cutting point is provided in the connecting pipe.
  • ◆ Cutting point is marked by an indentation on circumference of exhaust pipe

  • ◆ Body saw V.A.G 1523 A
  • ◆ Protective goggles

Front-wheel drive vehicles:

  • ‒ → Cut through exhaust pipe at right angles with body saw, e.g. V.A.G 1523A, at position marked -arrow-.

  • ‒ Position clamp centrally to cut when installing.
    • ‒ → Installation position of clamp -1-: Horizontal, bolted joints pointing towards rear => Fig.26-7
  • ‒ Perform stress-free alignment of exhaust system => Page 26-23.
  • ‒ Tighten bolted joints of clamp evenly to 40 Nm.

  • ‒ → Cut through exhaust pipe at right angles with body saw, e.g. V.A.G 1523A, at positions marked -arrow-.
