Special tools and workshop equipment required

Clutch counterhold tool -VW 558-
t
Depth gauge
Removing
l
Engine/gearbox removed.
–
Mark installation position of drive plate on engine.
–
Attach clutch counterhold tool -VW 558- in order to loosen bolts.
–
Unbolt drive plate.
–
Take out shim located behind.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Fit shim

onto crankshaft.

Install drive plate with washer

Lug
-arrow-
must face torque converter.
–
Fit at least 3 old bolts and tighten to 30 Nm.
–
Measure distance through torque converter securing hole using depth gauge.
l
Specification: Distance
-a-
= 18.9 ... 20.5 mm.
If specification is not obtained:
–
Remove drive plate and remove or add shim
-2-
.
–
Repeat measurement (tighten bolts on drive plate to 30 Nm).
If specification is obtained:
–
Renew all bolts and tighten to torque.

60 + 90°

Renew bolts.
2)
90° equals a 1/4 turn.
