Renewing protective caps and guide pins - FBC brakes
The guide pins must be removed if the protective caps are damaged.
Removing
  Note
Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.
–  Press down centre of retaining spring -7-.
   

  Note
t  The spring is under tension; hold your hand over the spring to avoid risk of injury.
t  When removing the spring, take care not to scratch or chip the paint on the brake caliper.
–  Carefully detach retaining spring.
–  Remove bolts -1- on brake caliper.
–  Detach brake caliper.
Do not leave brake caliper hanging from brake hose but secure it to bodywork using a suitable cable tie or wire. Take care that brake hose is not damaged by weight of brake components.
–  Pull outer part of protective cap -2- out of groove on guide pin.
   

–  Pull guide pin -3- outwards out of protective cap.
–  Pull protective cap out of brake caliper.
Installing
–  Carefully push guide pin into protective cap as far as first groove.
–  Fit protective cap in brake caliper.
The protective cap must be seated centrally in the brake caliper.
–  Push guide pin through protective cap.
The protective cap must now be seated in both grooves on the guide pin.
Check that both guide pins move freely. It should be possible to slide both guide pins in and out.
–  Install brake caliper and tighten bolts -1-: 30 Nm.
   

–  Fit retaining spring -7- on outer brake pad.
–  Press down centre of retaining spring and fit centre tab of spring in hole in brake caliper.
  Note
t  The spring is under tension; hold your hand over the spring to avoid risk of injury.
t  When fitting the spring, take care not to scratch or chip the paint on the brake caliper.
The tab of the retaining spring must be seated properly in the hole -arrow- in the brake caliper, otherwise the spring can become detached and the pad would not be secured.
