Removing and installing left mounting plate with control motors V108 and V110
Removing and installing left mounting plate with control motors -V108- and -V110-
The left footwell flap control motor -V108- and the left centre vent control motor -V110- are fitted with an air conditioner of the „Deluxe“ type.
  Note
t  The mounting plate with the left footwell flap control motor -V108- and the left centre vent control motor -V110- is only fitted on vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Deluxe“ type.
t  Dismantling and assembling mounting plate with control motors -V108- and -V110- → Chapter
t  At present all the control motors on this vehicle are identical. During basic setting, control motor assignment and adaption are implemented on the basis of the arrangement in the series connection of the wiring. If the sequence is not as specified, the matching of the control motors and thus flap control will not be correct → Chapter „Block diagram of air conditioner control motors“.
t  On right-hand drive vehicles, the cam plate is not driven directly by way of the control motor shaft. With such vehicles, the cam plate is actuated via two additional gear wheels → Chapter.
t  Different versions of the levers and connecting elements are fitted at the air conditioning unit depending on the production period → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
Removing
–  Move the driver's seat to the rearmost position.
–  Switch off the ignition.
–  Remove the storage compartment beneath the dash panel on the driver side → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
–  Remove the left (driver side) footwell vent → Chapter.
–  Remove the steering column → Running gear; Rep. gr.48.
–  Remove the pedal cluster and accelerator pedal module → Brakes - mechanism; Rep. gr.46 and → Fuel supply system; Rep. gr.20.
  Note

t  For greater clarity, the following illustrations show the position of the control motor and the mounting plate for this control motor on the left of the air conditioning unit with the air duct to the left dash panel vent -A- removed.
t  The air duct to the left dash panel vent -A- is attached with an expanding clip or a bolt -B- to the dash panel cross-member -C-. This expanding clip or bolt can only be removed after taking out the dash panel fascia.

–  To avoid interchange, mark the connectors -A- (to the left centre vent control motor -V110-), -B- (to the defroster flap control motor -V107-), -C- (to the left footwell flap control motor -V108-) and -D- (to the rear temperature flap control motor -V137-).
–  Unplug the connectors -A- to -D-.
–  Unfasten the wiring -E- from the attachment points at the mounting plate -F-.
  A87-10501
–  Carefully unclip the various connecting rods -A- to -D- from the levers at the corresponding flaps.
  Note
t  The connecting rods -A- to -D- are clipped in at the levers. Unclip carefully to avoid damaging the lever.
t  Different versions of the levers and connecting elements are fitted at the air conditioning unit depending on the production period → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  Remove the bolts -E-.
–  Detach the mounting plate -F- (with the control motors, levers, cam plates and connecting rods) from the air conditioning unit.
Installing
Install in reverse order; paying attention to the following:
–  Moisten the guides of the cam plate as well as the pins at the flap levers with a small quantity of grease (e.g. lubricating paste -G 000 150- → Electronic parts catalogue).
  A87-10502
–  Check for proper assembly of the levers, cam plates and connecting rods of the mounting plate -A- → Chapter.
–  When fitting the mounting plate -A-, insert the pins of the mounting plate -B- in the mounts -C- and the pins of the cam plates -D- and -F- in the mounts -E-.
–  When fitting the mounting plate -A-, insert the pins at the lever -G- in the guide slot of the cam plates -F-.
  Note
  A87-10503
t  When fitting, make sure the stop of the cam plate -C- is not inserted in area -F- (between the two stops at the air conditioning unit -D- and -E-).
t  The cam plate -A- moves the left (driver side) indirect ventilation flap by way of the lever -B-.
  A87-10504
–  Fit the bolts -E-.
–  Carefully clip in the various connecting rods -A- to -D- at the levers of the corresponding flap.
  A87-10502
–  Lay the wiring harness -E- as shown and secure it in the attachment points at the mounting plate -F-.
–  Plug in the connectors -A- to -D- in line with the markings.
–  Check the routing of the wiring harness -E-. It must not come into contact with moving components (e.g. lever).
–  Re-install all the other parts removed in reverse order.
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Perform air conditioner basic setting and final control diagnosis → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  Note
t  The control motors on this vehicle are equipped with electronics. A new control motor only learns its position at the air conditioning unit in the course of basic setting and can then be actuated by the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- (all control motors are identical at present) → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  During basic setting, control motor assignment and adaption are implemented on the basis of the arrangement in the series connection of the wiring. If the sequence is not as specified, the matching of the control motors and thus flap control will not be correct → Chapter (block diagram of air conditioner control motors).
–  Interrogate the event recorder of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- and erase any faults displayed → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  By making different settings on the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, direct the air to the various vents and check whether the flow of air out of the vent actually changes in line with the setting.
