Renewing oil seal for flange shaft (rear) on gearbox Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Thrust plate -VW 401-

t  Thrust plate -VW 402-

t  Press tool -VW 412-

t  Drift sleeve -30 - 100-

t  Thrust piece -T40165-

Remove centre differential housing -B- → Chapter.

Remove circlip -arrow-.

Press out flange shaft. –  Position centre differential housing in such a way that the flange shaft does not make contact with thrust plates -VW 401- and -VW 402- when it is pressed out.

Lever out oil seal -1-.   Note -Item 2- can be disregarded.

Installing oil seal Lightly lubricate outer circumference of oil seal and drive in onto stop. Make sure oil seal remains straight. –  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.

Press in flange shaft. l  Ball bearing for flange shaft must be installed. l  When pressing in, drift sleeve -30 - 100- must press against inner race of ball bearing. –  If originally fitted, secure vibration damper to centre differential housing. Tightening torque → Servicing 6-speed manual gearbox 0B4, four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.34

–  Fit circlip onto flange shaft -arrow-. –  Install centre differential and centre differential housing → Anchor.
