Removing and installing selector lever handle Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Removal wedge -3409-

t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275-

Removing –  Pull up parking brake button to apply electromechanical parking brake. –  Shift selector lever into position „N“.   Note The selector lever handle is removed together with the selector lever boot. –  Carefully pry out selector lever boot at the side in direction of -arrows- using removal wedge -3409- and turn selector lever boot inside out over selector lever handle.

–  Use a cable tie to secure the interlock button in pulled-out position -arrow-, as shown in the illustration.

–  Turn selector lever boot -1- inside out over selector lever handle -2-. –  Release clamp -arrow- and detach selector lever handle together with selector lever boot. Avoid touching the interlock button.

Installing   Note t  To install the selector lever handle the interlock button has to be pulled out to the stop and must be secured with either a cable tie -arrow- or with the assembly aid supplied together with the new handle. t  If, by mistake, the interlock button has not been secured, it must not be pulled out of the selector lever handle by means of mechanical tools. Apply a compressed-air gun at the bottom of the handle and press the interlock button out with compressed air.

–  Attach new clamp -arrow- to selector lever handle. –  Place selector lever handle fully on selector lever - interlock button points towards the driver. l  The handle must engage in the annular groove on the selector lever. –  Remove the cable tie or assembly aid, allowing the interlock button mechanism to engage in the vertical groove on the selector lever. If necessary, press the interlock button into the selector lever handle. –  Move selector lever to positions „R“ and „S“ to check button mechanism. l  If the selector lever cannot be moved into the above positions, the handle must be removed again → Chapter. –  Secure selector lever handle -2- on selector lever by tightening clamp -arrow- using hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275-. –  Clip retaining frame for selector lever boot -1- onto centre console.
