Cylinder head - exploded view   Note t  The plastic protectors fitted to protect the open valves must not be removed until immediately before fitting the cylinder head. t  If the cylinder head is replaced, all the coolant in the system must also be renewed.

q	To remove and install, detach toothed belt from camshaft sprockets and loosen idler roller.

Slackening cylinder head bolts –  Remove cylinder head bolts in the sequence -1 ... 10-.

Tightening sequence for cylinder head

1.  Tighten with torque wrench to 40 Nm. 2.  Tighten with torque wrench to 60 Nm. 3.  Use rigid wrench to turn 90° further. 4.  Use rigid wrench to turn 90° further.

Note Cylinder head bolts do not have to be torqued down again later after repair work.

Checking cylinder head for distortion Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Straight edge t  Feeler gauge Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm   Note The cylinder heads of diesel engines must not be machined.

Identification of cylinder head gasket 1 -  Part No. 2 -  Holes 3 -  Ignore   Note t  If the measured values for piston projection are not the same for all pistons, use the highest value to determine the correct gasket size. t  Cylinder head gaskets of different thicknesses are fitted depending on piston projection. When replacing the cylinder head gasket, install a new gasket with the same identification -arrow 2-.
