Steering Gear: Adjustments

Power Steering Gear, Adjusting

‹› Two technicians are required for adjustments. Adjust with the engine off.

Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] See: Suspension/Service and
Repair/Procedures/Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.

Wheels in the straight ahead position.

Turning the steering wheel back and forth (approximately 30 degrees off center axis) will produce a rattling noise if the steering play is too large.

The second mechanic must carefully turn the adjustment screw - arrow - until the knocking noise can no longer be heard inside the vehicle.

Place the vehicle on its wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] See: Suspension/Service and
Repair/Procedures/Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.

Carry out a road test.

Make sure that when maneuvering or negotiating corners the steering self centers without sticking, readjust if necessary.
