Ambient Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Service and Repair
Outside Air Temperature Sensor
Outside Air Temperature Sensor
‹› The measured value of the outside air temperature sensor (G17) is evaluated by the vehicle electrical system control module (J519) and then
transmitted via the data buy system to the climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head (and the instrument cluster control module (J285)).
Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
‹› This illustration shows the location of the outside air temperature sensor (G17) - A - on an Audi A5 Coupé; the location may be different
on the Audi Q5.
‹› On vehicles on which the outside air temperature sensor (G17) - A - and bracket - B - are attached on the grille above the bumper, due to the
installation of the outside air temperature sensor (G17) and under certain conditions, a higher temperature may be measured (due the heat radiating
from the radiator and the condenser. The location of the outside air temperature sensor (G17) - A - has been changed; the outside air temperature
sensor (G17) and its bracket - C - is not installed closer to the front (closer on the radiator grille) and under the bumper - D -.
‹› If the outside air temperature sensor (G17) - A - and bracket - B - are mounted on the grille above the bumper, there may be complaints due to an
excessive measured value. Install the outside air temperature sensor (G17 ) - A - and the revised bracket - C - slightly forward and under the
bumper - D -. Depending on the version of the wiring connection, it may be necessary to lengthen it. The bracket - C - is clipped onto the bumper
- D - (if not, drill a 7 mm diameter hole on the bumper - D -).
Removing and Installing
-
Switch off ignition.
-
Remove the upper lock carrier cover.
-
Disconnect the connector - E - on the temperature sensor - A - and remove the sensor from the bracket (- B - or - D -).
‹› Depending on the equipment level, it may be necessary to remove the bumper in order to be able to remove the outside air temperature sensor
(G17) - A - from the bracket - D - - C - (if, for example, on vehicles with an additional radiator, the outside air temperature sensor (G17) is not
accessible from the top).
-
After installing the climatronic control module ( J255), A/C control head, (and the instrument cluster control module (J285)) check the Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) memory and erase any displayed malfunctions. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in
"Guided Fault Finding" function.
