3 Series E46 316i (M43TU) SAL
Remove front end reinforcement. Unscrew engine mountings on
bottom left and right. Unfasten left and right control arm from
engine carrier. Unfasten screw connection on front axle support
and lower the front axle support.
This work is described in section on replacing front axle carrier,
refer to 31 11 001.
Note:
The steering gear must not be disconnected from the front
axle support.
Remove retainers for fuel lines.
On vehicles with automatic transmission:
Disconnect oil lines from automatic transmission and from oil pan.
Release oil pan screws on transmission and engine sides.
Lower oil pan and remove from rear.
If necessary, remove oil wiper.
If necessary, remove intake snorkel for oil pump.
Installation:
The intake snorkel is secured with self-tapping screws. For
this reason, no threading is present on new oil pans. Thread
can be shaped using existing screws.
Replace seal for intake snorkel.
Installation:
Sealing faces clean and free of seal debris. Replace the oil
pan seal. Fill openings in oil pan seal above joints to end
cover and to gear case with Drei Bond 1209 (refer
to BMW Parts Service).
Insert all screws in oil pan. Insert but do not yet tighten oil pan
screws, on transmission end. Tighten down screws on engine
end. Tighten screws on transmission end.
