3 Series E46 316i (M43TU) SAL
Caution!
Open-end wrench can slip off tensioning rail.
Slowly and carefully push back tensioning rail with open-end
wrench and remove strain from chain.
Remove chain wheel.
Press back bow cover until the groove in the hydraulic piston and
the locking bore are aligned in one line.
Lock hydraulic chain tensioner with special tool 11 4 120.
Caution!
Do not disassemble hydraulic chain tensioner.
Pistons which have extended to such an extent that the piston ring
is exposed can be reassembled with a special tool only,
refer to 11 31 091.
Note:
New components are fitted with transportation locks.
