3.0 Note national variants and equipment levels!
The "Car and Key Memory" settings available depend on the national variant and the equipment level of the vehicle.
Similarly, local legal stipulations and insurance requirements may also have an effect on the range of possible
settings.
The "Car and Key Memory" program largely reflects this rather complex theme, so that only those functions which
can actually be programmed are offered for the particular vehicle.
Enclosure 2 gives a detailed description of the different "Car and Key Memory" settings. A brief version can be found
in Enclosure 1.

4.0 What is "Car and Key Memory"?
The "Car and Key Memory" program allows the customer to choose individual settings in the vehicle's electronic
systems. Settings relevant to safety or type approval cannot be changed. These remain in the sphere of the familiar
programs "Encoding body/suspension" and "Programming drive train".
The "Car and Key Memory" settings are made in the dealership.
4.1 "Car Memory"
Settings relevant to the vehicle are made in the "Car Memory". These settings are independent of the key used, for
both unlocking the vehicle with the remote control or mechanically at the lock.
4.2 "Key Memory"
Settings in the "Key Memory" are allocated to a specific key with remote control. All the necessary data is stored in
the respective control units. "Key Memory" settings can only be allocated to keys with remote control. Two keys with
remote control are supplied as part of the vehicle's standard equipment. Settings can only be stored for up to 4 keys
with remote control.
Please note:
When the vehicle is unlocked with the remote control, the key is identified by the vehicle. This identification is
forwarded via the bus systems to the electronic systems in the vehicle, which in turn activate the stored settings.
5.0 Definition of "Car and Key Memory"
A clear distinction is made between "Car and Key Memory" settings and "Encoding body/suspension" and
"Programming drive train".
The impulse to develop the "Car and Key Memory" was the wish to satisfy the demand for individuality made by the
customer and to cover as many customer wishes as possible with the technology and tools available within the dealer
organisation.
"Car and Key Memory":
All settings made with the "Car and Key Memory" program are made only using DIS or MoDiC. No tools are needed,
no control unit needs to be removed, no electronics box lids etc. need to be disassembled.
Settings are made according to the customer's wishes or on the recommendation of the dealer.
"Encoding/programming":
"Encoding and programming" are carried out in case of repair, control units and/or vehicle components have to be
removed. Soft and hardware are exchanged or supplemented. In some cases, a label has to be applied.
The programs "Encoding body/suspension" and "Programming drive train" were developed, amongst other things, so
that in case of repair, as many different variants as possible can be covered by a single basic control unit and the
new control unit can simply be adapted to the national variant and equipment level of the vehicle.
6.0 Settings which can be changed by the customer
In addition to the functions described in Enclosures 1 and 2, which are programmed by the dealer using DIS and
MoDiC, there is one system in "Car Memory" and one system in "Key Memory", whose key-dependent functions can
be reprogrammed individually by the customer.
