Continue cranking engine in direction of rotation and repeat
backlash measurements at 120
°
and 240
°
.
Note down backlash readings.
Add the three backlash readings together and divide by three to
obtain the mean backlash.
If the reading exceeds or drops below the mean value, correct the
backlash with new spacer rings.
Mean backlash,
refer to Technical Data.
Note:
A difference in spacer ring thickness of 0.03 mm will alter the
backlash by approx. 0.02 mm.
If the backlash is too great, install thinner spacer rings.
If the backlash is too small, install thicker spacer rings.
Remove balancing shaft housing.
Rotate engine at central bolt in direction of rotation until
piston (1 and 4) is at TDC position.
Note:
For the purposes of assigning the balancing shafts, it does not
matter whether the engine is at overlap or firing TDC.
