Adjusting camshaft timing (M51)

(refer to Operation No. 11 31 005)

Note:

Before performing the adjustment work, the camshaft timing
must be checked, 

refer to 11 31 005

Removing vacuum pump,

refer to 11 66 000

Loosen sprocket screw.

Note:

Fit screw with no clearance to ensure that sprocket can still
rotate on camshaft.

Caution!

If the camshaft position is to be corrected enough for there to
be valve movement on cylinders 1 and 6, rotate crankshaft
engine-wise to approx. 30

°

 from the TDC position and only

turn back once camshaft has started to rotate.

This prevents contact between valves and pistons.
