AVL DIX BMW
emissions tester
BMW spark-ignition and diesel models
Situation:
The company AVL has developed the modular emissions tester and service station "AVL
DIX BMW" for the official emissions test.
This station supersedes the BMW testers 435 / 365, which cannot be upgraded for the
future diesel On-Board Diagnosis (diesel OBD).
The various DIX modules are linked to the basic module and to an IBM-compatible PC via
USB, RS232.
AVL DIX can also be expanded with additional modules.
The AVL Dix software is based on MS Windows. The user is guided through the emissions
test inspection procedure and, if necessary, given graphic and text-based support.
Navigation may be performed via a remote control (optional).
Detailed service screens for all modules allow fast and effective self-diagnosis of the
hardware and system information for the software modules.
The software is updated via internet/intranet or CD-ROM. The intelligent update concept
ensures that only those program parts are downloaded that are needed for the software
update.
Existing AVL modules such as AVL DiSpeed 490 can easily be integrated into AVL DIX, by
sending an enquiry to the manufacturer <mailto:[email protected]>.

Note:
Workshop work can only be performed with an emissions tester that has been approved by
BMW in accordance with BMW specifications (flat rate units etc.).
In Germany, all legal stipulations are thus satisfied.
This emissions tester may also be used in other EU countries following an enquiry to the
manufacturer <mailto:[email protected]> regarding homologation and after the appropriate
software adaptation.
