Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair
Precautions
Important: DO NOT refinish the rotors when performing routine brake maintenance such as replacing worn rear disc brake pads. Refinish a rotor
ONLY under the following conditions:

Brake pulsation is evident.

Scoring is greater than 1.5 mm (0.060 inch).

All rotors have a minimum thickness dimension case into them. This dimension is the minimum wear dimension; it is not a refinish dimension.
The minimum refinish dimension is greater than the discard dimension. Do not use a rotor that will not meet specifications. A rotor that is
refinished whose thickness is below the minimum specification will not possess the proper heat transfer capabilities. Therefore, replace any
rotor below the minimum thickness specification with a new rotor. Refer to Specifications.
Accurate control of the rotor tolerances is necessary for proper performance. For this reason use only precision equipment to machine the rotor. Service
the equipment on a regular basis according to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance procedure. The following components must be in good
condition when refinishing the rotors:

The attaching adapters.

The tool holders.
-
The vibration dampeners.
-
The tool bits.
Always use sharp cutting tools and/or bits. Use only replacement cutting bits that the equipment manufacturer recommends. Dull or worn tools leave a
poor surface finish. A dull or worn surface finish may affect the braking performance and may possible cause brake chatter while machining. Always use
vibration dampening attachments when refinishing braking surfaces. These attachments help eliminate tool chatter. Additionally, these attachments result
in better surface finish. Ensure these adapters are clean and free of nicks prior to use.
