Control Arm: Service and Repair
Replace one control arm at a time as axle assembly may slip sideways, making installation difficult.
UPPER CONTROL ARMS
Exc. Eldorado & Seville
1.
Support vehicle at frame and support rear axle using a suitable jack.
2.
If vehicle is equipped with Automatic Level Control, remove bolt attaching height control link to right upper control arm. Position overtravel lever
in center position.
3.
Position a jack stand under differential pinion retainer.
4.
Remove both control arm pivot bolts and control arm.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Tighten control arm pivot bolts with vehicle curb weight applied to axle.
Exc. Eldorado & Seville
1.
Support vehicle at frame and support rear axle using a suitable jack.
2.
If equipped with Automatic Level Control, remove two bolts securing stabilizer bar to control arm being removed.
3.
Remove front and rear lower control arm nuts.
4.
Position a suitable jack under front of differential carrier to relieve tension on lower control arm bolts.
5.
Remove front and rear lower control arm bolts and lower control arm. Lower control arm bushings are not serviceable.
6.
Reverse procedure to install. Tighten control arm bolts with vehicle at curb height.
