Hood Latch Release Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Raise and suitably support the hood.
2. Remove the hood latch.
3. Gently pry the hood latch release handle from the knee bolster using a taped flat bladed screwdriver.
4. Remove the hood latch release cable from the hood latch handle
5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
6. Remove the following components from the vehicle:

The 6 bolts

^

The 8 plastic retainers

^

The left wheelhouse panel

7. Lower the vehicle.

Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Removal Procedure

8. Attach a piece of mechanic's wire (1) to both ends of the hood latch release cable (2).
9. Pull the cable from the grommet and out of the interior of the vehicle.

10. Unclip the input air temperature sensor wiring harness from the hood latch support bracket.
11. Remove the hood latch release cable from the vehicle.
12. Remove the mechanic's wire from the cable. Leave the mechanic's wire in position to aid in the cable installation process.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Installation Procedure

1. Attach the mechanic's wire (1) to the hood latch release cable (2).
2. Guide the hood latch release cable into the vehicle with mechanic's wire.
3. Remove the mechanic's wire from the hood release cable.
4. Install the hood latch release cable to the hood latch release handle.
5. Install the hood latch release handle to knee bolster.
6. Guide the cable into position and remove the mechanic's wire.
7. Install the hood latch release cable to the hood latch.
8. Install the hood latch.
9. Install the input air temperature sensor wiring harness to the hood latch support bracket.

10. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
11. Install the left wheelhouse panel to the vehicle. Secure the panel with the 6 bolts and 8 plastic retainers.

Tighten
Tighten the wheelhouse bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

12. Lower the vehicle
13. Lower the hood
