Tracker 4WD L4-1.6L VIN 6 (1998)
1. Use the J 37750 in order to install the new oil seal to the steering knuckle.
2. Install the steering knuckle to the ball stud. Secure the steering knuckle with the castle nut. Finger tighten the nut.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that
application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the
fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or
other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint
clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these
instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Install the steering knuckle to the strut. Secure the steering knuckle with two nuts (3) and bolts (1).

Tighten the ball stud castle nut to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).

Tighten the strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the tie rod end to the knuckle. Secure the tie rod with a castle nut.
Tighten the tie rod end castle nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove the floor jack.
6. Install the cotter pins to the ball stud and the tie rod end.
7. Fill the recess in the wheel spindle with 10 g (0.35 oz) of GM Lubricate P/N 1052196, or the equivalent.
8. Install the spindle to the steering knuckle.
9. Install the dust shield to the steering knuckle. Secure the dust shield with four bolts.
Tighten the dust shield bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub Replacement.
11. On ABS equipped vehicles, connect the wheel speed sensor to the spindle. Secure the sensor with one bolt.
