4. Shift the tie rods to the left until the steering gear is centered in its travel.
5. Install the power steering pressure and return hoses to the correct ports on the steering gear (Figure 3). Tighten the hose tube nuts at the gear to of
31 Nm (275 in. lbs.).
6. Install the screws fastening the pressure and return hoses to the rear of the cradle crossmember (Figure 3). Tighten the screws to 23 Nm (200 in.
lbs.).
7. Install the power steering fluid cooler on the cradle crossmember reinforcement (Figure 4). Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 11 Nm (100
in. lbs.).
8. Reconnect the previously disconnected hose at power steering cooler and install the clamp.
9. Install the emissions vapor canister.
10. Install the NVLD assembly.
11. On each side of the vehicle, attach the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Install a NEW nut onto the outer tie rod stud. While holding the stud
stationary, snug the nut using a wrench. Using a crowfoot wrench on a torque wrench (Figure 1), tighten the nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies on the vehicle. Tighten the wheel mounting (lug) nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to
half specification. Then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
13. Make sure both front wheels are pointed approximately STRAIGHT-AHEAD.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. With the wheels pointed approximately STRAIGHT-AHEAD, align the intermediate shaft coupler with the steering gear pinion shaft, then slide
the coupler down over the pinion shaft (Figure 7). It may be necessary to remove the steering wheel holding tool to allow the coupler to rotate
slightly and match up to the pinion shaft. If holding tool is removed, use care not to allow steering wheel to rotate more than necessary in either
direction.
