Removing

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

- 5580C18 air bag module - r+r

Before working on the Air Bag system, follow the safety instructions for working on the system very carefully (See 5580C - Air Bag System - Precautions).

Before removing the steering wheel, position the wheels as far as possible parallel to the car's longitudinal axis.

- 4110A10 steering wheel - r+r for replacement or checks

- 7040A26 steering column trim - r+r

- 5550A10 stalk unit assembly - r+r

1. Undo the bolt securing the steering column to the steering box.

Before removing the steering column from the steering box, ensure the front wheels are straight.

1. Disconnect electrical connections (1a) and (1b).

2. Release the wiring from the fastenings on the instrument panel beam.

3. Undo the nuts (3a) and the rear bolts (3b).

4. Release the steering column from the instrument panel support beam and position on the floor.

Refitting

Fit the mount with steering shafts in its seat.

Tighten the bolts and nuts securing the mount with steering control shafts to the instrument facia support beam.

Tighten the bolt securing the support with steering shafts to the steering box.

Connect the electrical connections for the ignition switch.

- 4110A10 steering wheel - r+r for replacement or checks

- 5580C18 air bag module - r+r

Connect the battery terminals.

Check the operation of the Air Bag system using the Examiner or other diagnostic equipment.
