Ford Aerostar workshop manuals
Ford Aerostar at a glance: 8 manuals, covering 1986 to 1997 models, with engines from 2.3 to 4.0 litres.
About the Aerostar
The Aerostar was Ford's first minivan, sold from 1986 to 1997 against the Chevrolet Astro and Chrysler's minivans. Unlike most rivals it was rear-wheel drive, with a unibody built on full-length frame rails that let it tow 5,000 lb, and it was the only minivan in North America with coil springs at all four wheels. Every Aerostar was built at St. Louis Assembly in Missouri. The front-wheel-drive Windstar arrived for 1995, and the two were sold side by side until 1997.
What these manuals cover
- 1986 Aerostar: the 2.3-litre four-cylinder (dropped for 1988) and the 3.0-litre V6, which replaced the early 2.8 V6 during 1986.
- 1990–1997: the 3.0 and 4.0-litre V6s. The 4.0 arrived for 1990 with E-4WD, an all-wheel-drive system built for bad weather rather than off-road use. The AWD manuals cover it.
Tip: the 4.0 V6 is shared with the Explorer and Ranger, so their manuals of the same years are a useful second reference for engine work.
