Purging

All Vehicles
  1. Raise and support the vehicle until the front wheels are clear of the ground. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When filling the reservoir, make sure that the fluid is clean and not agitated prior to use. The fluid should be poured slowly into the reservoir to minimize the possibility of aeration.
    Fill the reservoir to the MAX mark with Power steering fluid .
Vehicles with 2.0L engine

  1. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
All Vehicles
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not continuously crank the engine for more than 30 seconds, as damage to the starter motor may result.
    Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
    • Add fluid to the reservoir until the level remains constant.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops for more than five seconds, as damage to the power steering pump may result.
    While cranking the engine for 30 seconds, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When filling the reservoir, make sure the fluid is clean and not agitated prior to use. The fluid should be poured slowly into the reservoir to minimize the possibility of aeration.
    Fill the reservoir to the MAX mark with power steering fluid .
Vehicles with 2.0L engine

  1. Connect the CKP sensor.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Connect the CKP sensor.
All Vehicles
  1. Start the engine. If air is still present bleed the power steering system. For additional information, refer to the procedure in this Section: System Bleeding.
