The Cougar is fitted with a vacuum controlled heater, as in Mondeo '97. The valves for air distribution are operated by vacuum units. The vacuum hoses which run from the air distribution control switch to the vacuum units are colored to avoid confusion. The temperature is controlled by means of a Bowden cable only on vehicles without air conditioning.
The heater housing only differs from the heater/air conditioning housing in that no evaporator is fitted.
The incoming fresh air is passed through a pollen filter to clean it of pollen and dirt particles.
The integrated heating and ventilation system is the same as in Mondeo '97.
Air conditioning
For the Cougar is only a semi-automatic air conditioning available.
In the case of the Semi-Automatic Temperature Control (SATC) air conditioning system, a microprocessor very effectively keeps the air at the selected temperature in automatic mode. To do this, the microprocessor uses input signals from various sensors to calculate the optimum valve settings and optimum blower speed (see Description and Operation in Section 412-04).
