Air Conditioning - Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Cougar 1999 (08/1998-01/2001)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. Reclaim the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Section  412-00 Climate Control System - General Information.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the two front right-hand splash shield parts (wheel removed for charity).
Vehicles with 2.0L engine

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    • Slacken the belt by turning the belt tensioner in a clockwise direction.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    • Slacken the belt by turning the belt tensioner in a clockwise direction.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
    • Unclip the HO2S wiring.
    • Remove the nuts.

  1. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor heat shield.
All Vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Seal the tube and the connection with plugs.
    Detach the A/C compressor (FS10 compressor).
    • Disconnect the tube.
    • Remove the bolts.

  1. Remove the A/C compressor (FS10 compressor).
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Seal the tube and the connection with plugs.
    Detach the A/C lines.

  1. Remove the A/C compressor (FVS 090 compressor).
    1. Disconnect the magnetique clutch - electrical connector.
    1. Remove four bolts.

Installation

All Vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new O-rings and coat them with refrigerant oil.
    To Install, reverse the removal procedure.
Vehicles with 2.0L engine

  1. Accessory Drive.
    1. Generator pulley
    1. Belt idler pulley
    1. Water pump pulley
    1. Power steering pump pulley
    1. A/C compressor pulley
    1. Crankshaft pulley
    1. Belt tensioner
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Accessory Drive.
    1. Belt tensioner
    1. Generator pulley
    1. Belt idler pulley
    1. Power steering pump pulley
    1. A/C compressor pulley
    1. Crankshaft pulley
  1. Evacuate and refill the A/C system.
  1. Check the air conditioning system for normal operation.
