The keyless entry remote transmitter operates the following functions:

  • Unlocking/locking the driver door.
  • Unlocking/locking all doors.
  • Activate/deactivate the double locking and the interior scanning system (if equipped).
  • Arms/disarms the anti-theft alarm system.
  • Deactivates a triggered alarm.

Inputs and Outputs

The keyless entry/computer operated lock system receives inputs from the following:

  • Ignition switch (positions l and ll).
  • Door ajar switches.
  • Hood switch.
  • Anti-theft alarm inhibit switch.
  • Keyless entry remote transmitter.

The keyless entry/computer operated lock system distributes outputs to the following:

  • Central timer module (interior lighting).
  • Door lock actuators.
  • Double locking motors.
  • Liftgate release actuator.
  • Indicator LED.
  • Turn signal lamps.

Transmitter, Keyless Entry Remote

The keyless entry/computer operated lock system is completely independent in function but fully integrated within the anti-theft alarm/double locking control module. The remote control system consists of a transmitter and an antenna.

The remote control transmitter for the radio frequency system will operate without the transmitter being directed at the vehicle. The normal range between transmitter and antenna will be 10 meters, but can operate up to 20 meters in exceptional conditions.

Before the remote control system can be used, each transmitter must be initialized to the vehicle. A maximum number of four transmitters can be initialized to any system. All remote control transmitters must be initialized at the same time.

The keyless entry/computer operated locks will not operate with the ignition switch in the RUN position.

Locking/Unlocking

The remote control transmitter housed within the ignition key contains three push buttons (lock, unlock and liftgate release) to operate the system.

Lock button (pressed once only) activates the central locking and the anti-theft alarm system.

Lock button (pressed twice within three seconds) activates the central locking, doublelocking, anti-theft alarm and interior scanning system (if equipped).

Unlock button (pressed once only) deactivates the central locking, double locking, anti-theft alarm, interior scanning system (if equipped) and the drivers door lock.

Unlock button (pressed twice within three seconds) deactivates the central locking on the remaining doors.

Double Locking

Double locking prevents the interior door handles from unlocking the vehicle. Double locking is activated by turning the key in either the driver's or the front passenger's door firstly to the unlock position and secondly to the lock position within three seconds or by operating the remote control.

Successful double locking activation is acknowledged by all of the direction indicators and the indicator LED flashing twice.

Double locking will be inhibited if the control module senses a door is open. The anti-theft alarm/double locking control module receives this input via the central timer control module, which receives its input from a door ajar switch.

If the vehicle battery becomes discharged after the double locking is activated, opening a front door with a key will mechanically deactivate the double locking (only on that door).

Central Security Module

The central security module contains a radio receiver that receives a signal from the key entry remote transmitter through the central security module antenna. Once a signal is received, the central security module sends the appropriate command to the door lock actuators, the horn relay, the liftgate release actuator, central timer module, and the exterior lights.

The central security module is equipped with battery back-up which holds the programmed transmitter(s) memory in the event of vehicle battery disconnection.

Antenna, Central Security Module

The antenna is attached to the outside of the harness situated under the drivers side front floor covering. This receives the signal from the key entry remote transmitter and relays it to the central security module.
