About the F-150 4WD
The four-wheel-drive F-150 is the half-ton F-Series pickup built for off-road and bad-weather work. In the 1980s it shared its chassis with the full-size Bronco, which was a short-wheelbase F-150. For 1997 Ford gave the F-150 an all-new chassis, body and engine range, separating it from the heavier F-250 and F-350, which became the Super Duty trucks for 1999.
What these manuals cover
- 1982–1986 (the seventh-generation truck): the 4.9-litre straight-six and the 5.0 and 5.8-litre V8s, plus the small 4.2-litre V8 in 1982.
- 1997–2008: the 4.2-litre V6 and the 4.6 and 5.4-litre Triton V8s, including flex-fuel, CNG and propane versions of the 5.4.
- 2010–2011: the 4.6 V8, then for 2011 a 5.0-litre V8 and the 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6.
Tip: for 1980s trucks, the full-size Bronco manuals cover the same chassis and engines. The F-150 2WD manuals help where your engine isn't listed here.
