General Procedures

CAUTION:
CAUTION:If fitting a new valve to a new vehicle with a recorded mileage of less than 60 Km (40 miles), the setting tool must be turned through 180° so that the reference slot is nearest the actuating lever
NOTE:
NOTE:The adjustment of the valve linkage is critical. In service adjustments can be carried out using the factory fitting spacer supplied with the vehicle. The spacer sets the valve linkage to the correct measurement with the vehicle in an unladen condition.
NOTE:
NOTE:For reference a decal showing the setting length can be found under the hood by the hinge.
  1. Raise the vehicle on a non wheel-free hoist.

  1. Slacken the adjusting bolt.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Fitting the setting spacer requires some force. Make sure the valve linkage is supported on fitting and remove the spacer.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:If a new valve is being fitted to a vehicle that has covered less than 60 Km (40 miles) the setting tool must be turned through 180°.
    Adjust the valve.
    1. Ensure that the setting spacer is correctly fitted. The reference slot must be positioned as shown.
    1. Install the setting spacer.
    1. Make sure the abutment block is against the actuating lever. Tighten the adjustment bolt.
    1. Remove the setting spacer.
    1. Check that the abutment block moves freely along the linkage.
  1. Remove the vehicle from the hoist.
