Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. Unscrew the knob from the gear lever.
  1. Pull the outer gaiter and frame off the center console.

  1. Remove the inner gaiter.
  1. Raise the vehicle.

  1. Detach the heat shields.

  1. Detach the shift rod and gearshift stabilizer.

  1. Detach the gearshift mounting and remove the gearshift mechanism.

Installation
  1. Locate the gearshift mechanism in position and fit the gearshift mounting.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the shift rod.
    Attach the gearshift stabilizer and the shift rod to the transmission.
      NOTE:

  1. Adjust the gearshift mechanism.
    • Engage fourth gear (from neutral, push the shift rod up to the stop).
    • Lock the gear lever in fourth gear position using the shaft of a twist drill bit (9 mm diameter).

  1. Adjust the gearshift mechanism (continued).

  1. Tighten the shift rod bolt.
    • Remove the drill bit from the gearshift housing.

  1. Fit the heat shields.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Fit the inner gaiter.

  1. Fit the outer gaiter and frame in the center console.
  1. Screw the gearshift knob onto the shift lever.
