| Description and Operation Opening Windows The front and rear door windows are manually operated with an individual market option of electrically operated front windows. On Courier Kombi, a sliding window "cassette" is bonded into each quarter panel. Fixed Windows The heated rear window fitted as standard on all models and optional heated windscreen. The liftgate glass, rear door windows (Courier) and rear quarter windows (3-door variant) are fitted with a rubber seal. Direct Glazing On all vehicles the windscreen is directly glazed to the window aperture by means of a polyurethane (PU) adhesive bead. In addition, Courier vehicles have a direct glazed side window. In addition to fixing the glass to the aperture, the adhesive bead also forms a watertight seal around the inner edge of the glass. To ensure good adhesion and sealing of a direct glazed window it is essential that the correct materials are used and that the PU adhesive is allowed to cure. WARNING:Should the ambient temperature fall below 10°C, artificial warming of the adhesive (using a hot air gun) should be employed. The curing time of the adhesive depends not only on temperature, but also on the relative humidity of the air. The cure time for a warm humid environment will be shorter than that for a cool, dry atmosphere. WARNING:A surface film of water on the bond line of the glass or on the window aperture will prevent the adhesive correctly bonding the two surfaces. Any moisture on the bond line of the glass or on the window aperture must be removed using a hot air gun before applying the PU bead. An oscillating cutter, an assortment of special cutting blades, a cartridge gun and two glaziers suction cups will be required in addition to the contents supplied with the Ford repair kit to perform direct glazing operations. |
